Mekenna Hearn

Kandis Mekenna Hearn was born and raised in San Antonio, TX where she was a member of TJ's Dance Factory. She studied from Nicholas Young (Tapestry), Barbara Ryan Phillips (Third Coast Rhythm) and Acia Gray (Tapestry). She was part of the competitive team and traveled all across the US for conventions, workshops and contests, such asThird Coast Rhythm, Soul 2 Sole, Tremaine and Broadway Dance Center. While in High School she was the captain of her dance team and helped with choreography for football season, competition and Spring Show. Mekenna was also the Captain of her college dance at Texas Lutheran University where she graduated with a B.S and B.B.A. in Accounting. She was part of musical productions at St. Phillips College such as The Wiz. She was also part of the original musical production "A Change of Heart Christmas" for the Hays Performing Arts Center. Before moving to Austin, Mekenna taught dance at numerous dance studios in the greater San Antonio area for all ages and styles. She was also a Dance Team Director, Head Fine Arts Dance Teacher and Cheer Coach for public school. She is a contest judge for Showtime International and a member of TDEA. She currently teaches classes at Dance Institute. She teaches many different styles of dance, including jazz, ballet, clogging, hip hop, contemporary, drill team and tap. She is the former director of the Tempo Tap Teams at PAS and the Tap Company Director at Cedar Park Dance Company where her choreography has won numerous awards including high point and top overalls. She is a former member of Vision in Motion Dance Company (Tapestry) and greatly enjoyed sharing her love of dance with everyone on stage. She loves sharing her passion and knowledge with all her dancers, and always looks forward to meeting new students each year.
